Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada, the seat of Clark County, and an internationally eminent significant resort city for gambling, shopping and fine eating. The city earned the title as Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. Las Vegas, which charges itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is renowned for the number of casino resorts and associated entertainment. A developing retirement and family city, it is the 28th most crowded city in the United States.
The primary drivers of the Las Vegas economy are tourism, gaming, and conventions, which in turn feed the retail and restaurant industries. The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels. Most of the hotel casinos are in the city's downtown area, which has been the focal point of the city's gaming industry since its early days. The city is home to several museums including the Neon Museum home to many of the historical signs from the valley, The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Lied Discovery Children's Museum, National Atomic Testing Museumand the Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park.
Transportation in the Las Vegas Valley including the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson is a multifaceted system. The Las Vegas Valley, being the one of the largest tourist destinations in the world, has a mass transportation system which favors the Las Vegas Strip.
Las Vegas StripThe center of the gambling and entertainment industry, however, is located on the Las Vegas Strip. The largest and most notable casinos and buildings are located there.
The city is home to an extensive Downtown Arts District, which hosts numerous galleries and events. "First Friday" is a monthly celebration that includes arts, music, special presentations and food in a section of the city's downtown region called 18b.
AirportMcCarran International Airport handles international and domestic flights into the Las Vegas Valley. The airport also serves private aircraft and freight/cargo flights. Most general aviation traffic uses the smaller North Las Vegas Airport and Henderson Executive Airport.
McCarran is the 24th busiest airport by passenger traffic in the world, with 41,856,787 passengers passing through the airport in 2013. In terms of aircraft movements, the airport ranks 8th in the world with 527,739 takeoffs and landings.
